These Easter nests are super simple to make and seriously delicious to eat. I made a batch recently for my daughter’s 6th birthday and I thought I should share the tasty recipe with you all.
There’s a certain kind of magic in transforming traditional favorites into inclusive versions that everyone can enjoy, regardless of dietary restrictions. And these Easter nests are so imperceptibly gluten free that everyone will enjoy them whether they are gluten free or not.
Do I Need Many Ingredients?
You don’t need many ingredients at all to make these Easter nests, only gluten free rice crispies, marshmallows, butter and chocolate eggs.
I used a mixture of M&Ms chocolate eggs and Cadbury Mini Eggs, which were both gluten free at the time of writing. Any gluten free variety will do, just always check the back of the pack as some other brands are not suitable for coeliacs.
Can I Make These Easter Nests Dairy Free or Lactose Free?
Yes! Simply use a dairy free baking spread/lactose free butter/plant based butter, depending on your dietary requirements, instead of dairy butter.
Which Rice Crispies Did You Use?
Any gluten free ones should work nicely – rice crispies, rice pops, rice snaps. I used some supermarket own brand ones (Tesco free from), but a different variety will be just as good, as long as it’s a specifically gluten free one. Note Kelloggs Rice Krispies (and other main stream varieties) are not gluten free.
I have tried making these with puffed rice (this Kallo variety for example), so while it should work the texture will be very different. I recommend you stick with rice snaps/crispies to give you chewy and crispy Easter nests.
If you aren’t gluten free and have found yourself craving these, standard rice crispies will work perfectly too.

This easy recipe will make 12 rice crispy treats. The recipe can be halved/doubled/tripled easily, if you need to make more of less than 12.

Rice Crispy Treat Easter Nests (GF)
Crispy-chewy little Easter nests made with marshmallows for a delightful seasonal sweet treat.
Ingredients
- 70g unsalted butter
- 200g mini marshmallows (or large ones, chopped into small pieces)
- 200g gluten free rice crispies
- Approx 100g mini chocolate eggs (such as Cadbury Mini Eggs or M&Ms Eggs)
Instructions
- Melt the unsalted butter in a small, non-stick saucepan over a low heat.
- Add the marshmallows to the butter and stir over a low heat until they have melted completely. This takes about 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, line a muffin tin with 12 muffin cases and set aside.
- Take a large bowl and add the gluten free rice crispies, then pour the melted marshmallow and butter mixture over the top - stir through. Work quite swiftly, as the marshmallow will begin cooling and will get stickier the long you take!
- Use two spoons to divide the mixture between the cases, pressing down to create a hollow in the centre of each.
- Add chocolate eggs to each nest hollow and leave to set. They don't take long to firm up (15 minutes in a cool room) and you can also enjoy them straight away if you don't want to wait around!
